About Me & My Credentials

I’m Kyrah Dickens, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #118667) and the owner of Clear Thoughts Therapy & Beyond.

I have 14 years of clinical experience and am an EMDR Certified Therapist and

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Certified therapist. I have also conducted immigration psychological evaluations since 2016.

I provide online individual therapy for adults ages 18 and older who are physically located in California during sessions. My primary therapy specialties are anxiety and trauma, and my main treatment approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Who I Help

I work with ambitious, driven, and high-achieving adults who experience anxiety, trauma-related distress, excessive worry, perfectionism, or persistent self-doubt.

Many of my clients are capable and dependable but privately struggle with overthinking, fear of failure, imposter syndrome, harsh self-criticism, low self-esteem, or difficulty setting boundaries.

Some experience distressing memories, emotional triggers, or negative core beliefs connected to painful experiences. Others experience anxiety without a trauma history.

My goal is to help you understand these patterns, address emotional distress, build greater self-trust, and make meaningful changes.

When This Work Is a Good Fit

This work is often a good fit for ambitious, driven, and capable adults who appear confident and successful on the outside but privately struggle with anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt, or the pressure to get everything right.

You may be tired of constantly second-guessing yourself, worrying about disappointing others, or feeling like your accomplishments are never enough. You want to understand what’s keeping these patterns going and are willing to actively participate in therapy that addresses both underlying emotional experiences and the thoughts and behaviors affecting your everyday life.

You may be a good fit for my approach if:

  • You experience excessive worry, anxious thoughts, or difficulty turning your mind off.
  • You overthink decisions, replay conversations, or frequently second-guess yourself.
  • You feel pressure to perform, avoid mistakes, or meet high expectations.
  • You struggle with perfectionism, imposter syndrome, low self-esteem, or feeling you’re not good enough.
  • You have difficulty setting boundaries or feel responsible for others’ feelings.
  • You experience emotional triggers, distressing memories, or negative beliefs connected to trauma.
  • You feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or burned out.
  • You want active, collaborative therapy that combines deeper emotional work with practical strategies.

You do not need to identify as ambitious or high-achieving to seek therapy for anxiety or trauma.

Immigration Psychological Evaluations

In addition to individual therapy, I provide immigration psychological evaluations for individuals throughout California. I have conducted immigration evaluations since 2016, drawing on my 14 years of clinical experience working with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and emotional distress.

I provide evaluations for asylum, extreme hardship and cancellation of removal, VAWA, U visa, and T visa matters.

My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and clinically objective. I recognize that discussing painful experiences, family separation, or uncertainty about the future can be difficult. My goal is to provide a thorough assessment that documents relevant psychological symptoms, experiences, and their impact on daily functioning.

Immigration psychological evaluations are separate from ongoing psychotherapy. They involve a focused clinical assessment and individualized written report that may provide documentation for an immigration attorney to consider.

Therapeutic Approaches for Anxiety, Trauma, and Burnout

I tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals using three primary approaches.

CBT for Anxiety, Excessive Worry, and Negative Beliefs

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify and change unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress.

I use CBT to address excessive worry, anxious thought spirals, overthinking, second-guessing, perfectionism, harsh self-criticism, low self-esteem, and negative core beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” or “I have to get everything right.”

EMDR for Trauma, Distressing Memories, and Negative Core Beliefs

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy approach that helps people process distressing experiences and memories.

As an EMDR Certified Therapist, I use EMDR to address trauma-related distress, emotional triggers, painful memories, and associated negative beliefs such as “I’m not safe,” “I’m powerless,” or “I’m not good enough.”

ACT for Stress, Burnout, and Getting Unstuck

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps develop psychological flexibility and supports meaningful action even when difficult thoughts or emotions are present.

I use ACT to address stress, burnout, avoidance, and patterns in which anxiety, fear, or self-doubt interfere with decisions and personal goals.

I also incorporate mindfulness-based tools when appropriate to support emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and more intentional responses to stress.

Therapeutic Approach & Style

Therapy with me is active, compassionate, collaborative, and direct.

I provide space for you to feel heard and understood while also working toward meaningful change. Together, we identify patterns contributing to anxiety or emotional distress, explore negative core beliefs, and develop practical ways to respond differently.

Depending on your needs, our work may involve processing distressing experiences, challenging unhelpful thoughts, practicing healthier boundaries, or building skills to manage worry and difficult emotions.

I bring warmth, honest feedback, and active engagement to our sessions. Some sessions focus on deeper emotional processing; others emphasize strategies you can apply in everyday life.

What It’s Like to Work Together

We may work well together if you appreciate a therapist who is warm, engaged, and direct, and you’re interested in actively participating in the therapeutic process.

My approach combines deeper emotional work with practical strategies. We’ll explore longstanding patterns and beliefs while working toward changes that are meaningful to you.

When This May Not Be the Best Fit

I provide online individual therapy for adults throughout California, specializing in anxiety and trauma. While online therapy can be effective for many concerns, it isn’t always the most appropriate setting for every person’s needs.

This may not be the best fit if you’re looking for services that require in-person support, more intensive treatment, specialized care, or immediate intervention. Some mental health concerns

may be better addressed in a setting where additional clinical resources, closer monitoring, or a higher level of care are available.

My individual therapy practice may not be the best fit if you’re looking for:

  • Couples therapy or therapy for minors: My therapy services focus on individual treatment for adults ages 18 and older.
  • Primary treatment for active substance use or addiction: A specialized substance use treatment program may offer more comprehensive support.
  • Specialized eating disorder treatment: Eating disorders may require coordinated care involving medical, nutritional, and mental health professionals.
  • Treatment for severe or acute mental health symptoms: Concerns such as active psychosis, unmanaged bipolar disorder, or symptoms requiring close monitoring may be better supported through in-person services, psychiatric care, or a higher level of treatment.
  • Crisis or emergency mental health services: My practice is not equipped to provide immediate crisis intervention or around-the-clock support.
  • Court-ordered therapy or custody-related services: I do not provide court-ordered psychotherapy or custody-related evaluations. My separately offered immigration psychological evaluations may involve immigration-related legal matters.
  • In-person therapy: My practice is entirely online and does not offer office-based appointments.

Needing a different type or level of care doesn’t mean therapy isn’t appropriate for you. It simply means another provider or treatment setting may be better equipped to offer the support your situation requires.

If you’re unsure whether online therapy with me would be appropriate for your needs, we can discuss that during a free 15-minute consultation.

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis or are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You can also call or text 988 for crisis support in the United States.
